Miraculous Ladybug fanfiction by Juliette.
Ladybug raced to the last place she saw her partner: unconscious in the middle of the school lobby. The painful images flashed through her mind. Cat Noir thrown into wall after wall, even though he had long since slipped out of consciousness. Stoneheart had been defeated twice, and for that he had shown no mercy his third time around. His revenge provided him with an energy that this time, Cat Noir couldn't match.
She found piles of concrete and wood littering the floors of the school lobby, but as far as people went, it was empty.
"Are you looking for someone?" Stoneheart's booming voice echoed from behind her. She turned around, and saw Stoneheart, holding Cat Noir in his hand. Thankfully though, he was still unconscious. "I need you to do me a favor," he said.
"In your dreams," she countered. "The only favor I would do for you is to take your akuma."
"What if I told you his life was hanging in the balance?" Stoneheart taunted, brandishing Cat Noir as if he were a trophy.
Ladybug stopped. She knew Cat Noir would not hesitate to do whatever it took to save her if the tables were turned, and now that his life was in her hands, she realized she couldn't handle losing him either.
She sighed and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
"I want you to take his ring, and then come with me."
She looked at Cat Noir. Aside from the situation at hand, he looked almost peaceful, completely oblivious of her presence and his current situation. "Fine," she said. She had to come up with a plan, and she had to do it fast. Luckily, Stoneheart set Cat Noir down a fair distance away, so she had some time to think as she walked over.
I can't take his ring, but I can't let Cat Noir get hurt, she thought. I just have to get him and Stoneheart away from each other. She looked around before sitting down next to Cat Noir. Stoneheart isn't guarding the exit.
Ladybug swung Cat Noir up onto her back, and bolted for the door. "Hey! Come back!" Stoneheart shouted, and a large block of concrete landed in front of them. Ladybug kept running as more debris was thrown into her path.
"Nng," Cat Noir moaned.
"Oh no! Not now! Please, whatever you do, don't wake up now!" she begged him, dodging a set of lockers.
"Ladybug?"
"Yes, it's me," she said. "Just hold on. I know it hurts. Just a little farther. Aah!"
She tripped and fell, sending both of them crashing to the floor. On instinct, Cat Noir tried to catch himself with his broken ankle. He inhaled sharply, and passed out. Ladybug picked him up and ran to the door.
As soon as they got out of Stoneheart's sight, Ladybug sat Cat Noir down.
"Come on. Wake up." She felt his forehead. Like she predicted, he was suffering from the first stages of heat exhaustion. She moved him into some shade further away from Stoneheart to help cool him off. Now I just need to find some water, she thought.
"Lucky Charm!"
A camera fell into her hand.
"A camera? How is this supposed to help Cat Noir?"
Maybe it's not meant for Cat Noir, she thought. Maybe it's meant to help me find the akuma.
She looked back at Cat Noir. First things first, she had to find water. Luckily, they were right next to Marinette's house.
The bakery was closed, so Ladybug crept upstairs to the kitchen and got a water bottle from the fridge.
"Marinette, is that you?" her mom yelled from another room.
"Uh, yeah, it's me, just getting some water."
"Okay."
Ladybug went back outside, where she found Cat Noir awake. "Here," she said, handing him the water bottle. "Drink this."
She picked up the camera, and looked back at Cat Noir. "Any ideas on how I could use this?"
"Well, yellow is the first color the brain sees, and Stoneheart's rock is purple, which is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum," he began.
"You need to drink some more of that water," she said. "I'm not sure you're thinking clearly."
"You didn't let me finish. I was going to say you could set the camera to negative to invert every color to its opposite, making the stone yellow so you can see it better."
"Cat, you're a genius!"
"I get that a lot," he smirked.
She changed the camera to negative mode, and looked through the lens. Almost immediately, she saw the yellow stone sitting on the ground. She walked over and stomped on it, setting the akuma free. "No more evil-doing for you, little akuma," she said, swinging her yoyo around to catch it. "Time to de-evilize!" She let the purified akuma go, and threw the camera up into the air. "Miraculous Ladybug!"
Cat Noir slowly stood up, testing his ankle, and walked over to Ladybug. "Good job, m'lady."
"Cat, I'm going to say this once, and you had better listen."
"Okay."
"Don't let yourself get hurt because of me, because, I might not be there to fix everything."
"Don't worry," he said, embracing her in a hug. "I won't."
